5 Surprising Facts About CoolSculpting™ You Won’t Hear Anywhere Else:

Ever since CoolSculpting™ showed up on the market in 2010, our approach to non-invasive body-sculpting has never been the same! We love CoolSculpting™ and think it delivers some pretty incredible results. And because this is the only aesthetic procedure we offer in our clinic, we know the ins and outs of this technology pretty well. But it never ceases to amaze us when we hear about some of the myths that are circulating about CoolSculpting™. So let’s shed some light on these misconceptions and give you the inside scoop!

Myth #1

CoolSculpting™ is a one-hour procedure.

With the older generation of CoolSculpting™ applicators, the actual treatment time is indeed one hour. However, your time at the clinic for a single treatment will be closer to just under 2 hours because of the time it takes to change your clothes, take photos and prepare for the treatment. With the newest applicators called the CoolAdvantage™, the treatment time is only 35 minutes so the time spent for one treatment would be just over an hour.

Myth #2

CoolSculpting™ will work on anyone.

It may sound funny but not everyone has the right kind of fat for this treatment. If you have visceral fat, which lies under the abdominal muscle wall, or more fibrous or dense fat, these do not respond as well to CoolSculpting™. However, if the fat is pinch-able, squeezable, and generally soft and squishy, this is the perfect type of fat! Unfortunately, many clinics will recommend CoolSculpting™, even when the tissue isn’t the right kind, resulting in less-than-optimal results and an undeserved bad rap. Make sure you take the time to have several assessments done by someone who is an experienced CoolSculpting™ technician. This could save you money and great disappointment!

Myth #3

CoolSculpting™ is extremely painful.

It is important to remember than every person has a different pain tolerance and for some, perception of pain can be extreme which, in this case, does not represent the majority of CoolSculpting™ patients. With the older style applicators, which use a strong vacuum to draw the tissue into the cooling cup, the post-treatment effects can be uncomfortable for a few days. Most importantly, if the incorrect applicator was used OR the tissue type was not suitable, this can cause significant post-treatment discomfort. But with the newer CoolAdvantage™ applicators, the depth of the treatment cup is significantly more shallow and the cooling area is slightly larger. As such, the suction is much more gentle resulting in a much more comfortable treatment and fewer, if any, after-effects.

Myth #4

You always need two rounds of CoolSculpting™ treatments to see results.

The most important thing to remember is that CoolSculpting™ is meant for small pockets of stubborn fat that are resistant to diet and exercise. It is best suited for those who are within 20-30 pounds of their ideal body weight, not as a debulking or weight-loss treatment. If the tissue type is correct (pinch-able, squeezable, soft and squishy), then a single treatment per area should do the trick. However, if the tissue is dense, fibrous or visceral (behind the muscle wall), then multiple treatments will often be required as this is not the best-suited tissue for the CoolSculpting™ procedure. There are some people who have slightly more tissue in their problem area and will benefit from two rounds of treatment but in our experience, that is extremely rare.

Myth #5

CoolSculpting™ causes skin laxity.

Once the CoolSculpting™ procedure is completed, the body gets rid of the damaged fat cells fairly quickly and then the job of rearranging the remaining fat cells into a new, more compact, and dense design begins. This is why it can take several months to see the results. However, because the tissue reduction takes time, the skin has the opportunity to firm and tighten as the treated area is reduced leaving no opportunity for the skin to become flaccid or lax. On the contrary, more aggressive fat reduction procedures such as liposuction can cause the skin to become lax and unstable.

CoolSculpting™ can truly provide incredible results for people who have the right kind of tissue. So before throwing the baby out with the bathwater and believing everything you read, schedule two or three CoolSculpting™ assessments to get a feel for what it’s all about. Make sure you choose clinics who have extensive experience using CoolSculpting™ as they will be able to offer you a better perspective as to whether or not this treatment is right for you. But secretly, we certainly hope it will be because if it’s a good fit, the results are incredible!
